J. D. Women’s College in Imparting Women’s Education

J. D. Women's College is a Constituent unit of Patliputra University, Patna. It was established in the year 1971 to foster the cause of education for women in the state of Bihar. The college possesses a campus of 2.41 acres with strength of 5,000 students and 125 core faculty members along with 25 visiting/guest faculty members.

This institution is a multi-faculty college, imparting teaching up to Degree Honours stage in Science and Post-Graduation stage in Arts. Under vocational education programme of the Govt. of India, the College introduced the teaching of vocational courses at Degree Honours stage in the year 1997 and Post-Graduate Professional stage (MBA & MCA) in the year 2002. Adoption of community college concept is another milestone in the history of college.

As an institution of learning it has a commanding presence both in the University as well as in the capital of the state. The college, while maintaining its exemplary record in University examinations, has also emerged as a serious contender in inter University competitions winning large number of prizes.

Our primary objective is to empower women with educational tool to become self-reliant. At the same time, we strive to provide the students an opportunity for self-expression, innovation and wide exposure, which facilitate their all-round development. While fostering a stimulating academic environment, the college attempts at instilling positive values and attitudes to promote strife-free society.

Methods of Instructions:

Besides traditional classroom lectures; the professional department imparts teaching through Smart Classes using audio-visual aids, Case Studies, Project Training etc. Regular Group Discussion, Seminar and Workshops are also regularly organized to develop managerial and other technical skills among students. Special lectures by expert professionals / corporate executives are integral part of our curriculum.

Infrastructure:

A well-furnished Director's Chamber with visitors lobby is present on 1st Floor of the Technical Building for close supervision of the courses.
A well-furnished HOD Chamber with visitors lobby is present on 2nd Floor of the Technical Building for smooth conduct of the courses.
A well-furnished independent Faculty’s Chamber with visitors lobby is present on 2nd Floor of the Technical Building for efficient conduct of the courses.
A well-furnished Conference Room is also available for departmental purpose.
Eight well-furnished air-conditioned smart classes have been exclusively provided to the Department of Management studies & Computer Science in the Technical Building of the college.
Two fully furnished air-conditioned Computer Labs are available for both the courses. All the work stations are inter-connected on LAN. Wide range of Pentium Computers, Printers (Laser Jet, Inkjet & Dot Matrix), LCD Projector & Scanners are provided for the benefit of the students. A dedicated Optical Fibre Broad Band of 50 mbps connection has been provided to the Computer Labs for fast internet access. Professional Course students have free access to Internet in the campus.
A well-furnished Common Room, having water purifier and water cooler, is provided for the professional course students on 2nd Floor of the Technical Building.
Professional Course Library is situated on the 1st floor of Library Block of the Main Building of college. Well furnished reading room is also available in the Library. The Library is well equipped with Text books, Reference books & Journals of Indian as well as Foreign publications relevant to the course curriculum. Top ranking national newspapers like Financial Express, Economic Times and Times of India are provided in the reading section of the Professional Course Library. E-Journal and e-Book access is also provided to all the students. "Xerox" facility at subsidised rate is available in the Library.

Special Features

Institution-Industry Interaction Cell (III-C)-

The college has constituted an Institute-Industry Interface Cell, where students form a forum to voice their opinions and interact with the decision makers from the corporate world. The cell is also responsible for organising special lectures of IT and Management experts.

The Placement Cell (P-C) –

The Faculty of Management and Computer Sciences has a well organized permanent placement cell consisting of different faculties and corporate representatives. One student representative securing highest marks in the 3rd semester of MBA & 5th semester of MCA is nominated to this committee by the Director. The main objective of P-C is to provide assistance and guidance to Professional Course students in getting on-the-job training/Project Training and placement in the corporate world.

For the benefit of the students, Technical Block of the college provides free and fast Wi-Fi facility.

    Admission Procedure:

    Reservation Policy:
    Reservation policy, as notified by the Bihar Government, will be strictly followed in the admission.

    Group Insurance:

    As per AICTE norms, Group Insurance is mandatory for all the admitted students.

     Anti-Ragging Declaration:
    As per AICTE norms, students will have to sign Anti-Ragging undertaking in the prescribed format at the time of admission. The undertaking must be duly signed by the concerned student as well as her parent.

    Registration:
    The admitted students (except those who are already registered with Patliputra University) will have to submit Migration Certificate from their previous university along with requisite fee for university registration. Without registration, they won’t be allowed to appear in the university exam.

    Sent-up Rules:
    75% attendance is mandatory. No student will be permitted to appear in the University examination unless she fulfils the condition of 75% attendance in each paper, Seminars, Case studies and Special Lectures.

    Examinations:
    Student will have to appear in the University Examination at the end of each semester. The examination will be conducted by Patliputra University, Patna.

    Award of Degree:
    On successful completion of the course, appropriate degree will be awarded by the Patliputra University, Patna.

    Recognition of the Courses:

      1. MBA & MCA courses are approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi vide Letter No. F.No. Northern/1-9317485005/2021/EOA dated 25/06/2021.
      2. Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya, granted approval to MBA course vide letter no. PR/629/03 dated 19/02/2003 and MCA course vide letter no. Dev/56/03 dated 15/07/2003.

        Master of Business Administration Programme

        (MBA)

        Department of Management Study of the college provides Master of Business Administration (MBA) Programme only.

        The MOTTO of our M.B.A. programme is:

          1. To professionally empower young women for high quality independent living in life.
          2. To impart top class knowledge and skill of management to the students, so that they could compete with the best in the world.
          3. To inculcate human values along with professional expertise in the students to make them successful social beings.

        Number of Seats: Total number of seats available is 60 only.

        Eligibility Criterion for Admission to MBA:
        Three years Bachelor's degree in any discipline with a minimum of 50% marks. A candidate, who has appeared at the degree examination and is awaiting the result or is appearing at the degree examination, may also apply for admission; but her candidature will be cancelled if she fails to produce necessary documentary proof of her passing out the same with requisite 50 per cent marks at the time of Interview.

        Admission and Selection Procedure:
        Score sheet of any All India Management Entrance test as CMAT/MAT/CAT/XAT/ATMA of the same academic session (last 12 months i.e. September to May) is mandatory to apply for admission. The University will also conduct group Discussion and Personal Interview of the candidates short-listed on the basis of Entrance Test score (CMAT/MAT/CAT/XAT/ATMA).

        Course Plan for MBA Programme:

          1. MBA is a 2-year full time program consisting of four semesters. The academic session generally starts from the end of July or beginning of August every year.

        Project Work/On Job Training:
        In 4th Semester, every MBA student is required to spend 30-45 days in an industry for project work under the guidance of a supervisor. The Project Report will be evaluated by an External examiner.

        Academic Evaluation/Internal Assessment:
        A continuous system shall be followed to assess the students' performance. The students will be evaluated on the basis of class participation, quizzes, assignments, mid-term exams, seminars, group discussions, participation in co-curricular activities, over all behaviour and attendance; and will be awarded sessional marks at the end of each semester. The sessional work will be evaluated by a committee constituted by the director.

        Attendance Policy:
        No student will be permitted to appear at any semester examination unless she fulfils the condition of 75% attendance, as per existing university rules.

        Conduct of examination:

        The semester examinations will be conducted by the Patliputra University, Patna; which shall also finalise the date of examination, centre for examinations and necessary fee for its conduct.

          Master in Computer Application Programme

          (MCA)

          Department of Computer Sciences of the college provides Master in Computer Application (MCA) Programme at PG stage.
          The objective of our MCA programmes is:

            1. To train the students to make them value based professionals of global standard.
            2. To enable them design, develop and run Information systems for all kind and dimension of organizations.
            3. To make them expert at developing Application Software in diverse areas.

          Number of Seats: Total number of Seats available is 60 only.

          Eligibility Criterion for admission to MCA:
               Three years Bachelor's Degree in any discipline with a minimum of 45% marks and Mathematics as a paper at 10+2 level / Graduation level.
                  A Candidate who has appeared at the degree examination and is awaiting the result or is appearing at the degree examination may also apply for admission, but her candidature will be cancelled if she fails to produce necessary documentary proof of passing the final degree exam with requisite marks at the time of interview.

          Admission and Selection Procedure:
          Students will be admitted to this course on the basis of Written Test score obtained by them in the PGCET (Vocational) conducted by University. Entrance test will be followed by Group Discussion & Personal Interview.
          Merit List for admission to MCA course will be prepared on the basis of Written Test, Group Discussion and Personal Interview marks.

          Course Plan for MCA Programme:
          MCA is a full time programme of three academic sessions consisting of Six Semesters. Each Semester will be of Six Months and the academic session starts in July and ends in June.

          Course Curriculum: 

          The primary emphasis in MCA programme is on designing information systems and developing application software in diverse areas of programming languages, database systems etc. MCA is an integrated programme where the major thrust in its curriculum is on giving the students a sound background in computing, Business functions, Science & Technology and Environmental Management. Thus, the curriculum has these four streams of courses.
          In computing, students learn the best from practice. A strong laboratory is an important part of the curriculum. The laboratory besides supplementing the theory course will also expose the students to the use of the latest software tools. Internet connectivity will also be provided to students for obtaining latest knowledge about software tools.

          Every MCA student is required to spend the Sixth Semester in an industry/organization for a project work on development of software system under the guidance of a supervisor. The students will have to report back to the college, periodically for seminar on the work being done by them.

          Academic Evaluation & Internal Assessment:

            1. Each subject of the curriculum (theory/Practical/seminar/ industrial lecture/project) has got an independent entity and will be evaluated separately.
            2. Each student will have to take a full time project work of approximately 5 months preferably in Industry/Business Organization.
            3. Students will have to appear at the assessment exam in each semester. The sessional marks will be awarded on the basis of class assessment exam, attendance, lab work report and over all behaviour & discipline of the students. The responsibility for evaluating sessional work shall be that of the committee constituted by the Director.
            4. For seminars, marks will be based on presentation/ participation & Seminar report to be evaluated by external examiners appointed by the university.
            5. The project marks in the University exam will be based on project report and viva-voce to be conducted by external examiners appointed by the university.

          Attendance Policy:
          Regular attendance (at least 75%) in all classes, seminars, symposia, discussions etc. are essential otherwise the candidate shall not be permitted to sit for the examination of that semester.
          No student will be permitted to appear in any semester examination unless she fulfils the condition of 75% attendance as per existing university rule.

          Conduct of Examination:
          The examination shall be conducted by the Patliputra University which shall also finalise the date of examination, centre of examination and necessary fee for its conduct.
